A Montrose County grand jury has filed negligent homicide and other charges in connection with the death of a boy who died in May 2007 from a staph infection at a boot-camp-like youth program.
Alternative Youth Adventures, the operator of the program, another organization and several individuals have been named in the indictment.
Caleb Jensen, 15, of Salt Lake City, collapsed while on a group hike near the Uncompahgre Plateau. Counselors tried to revive him, but he was dead by the time rescue personnel arrived.
A Mesa County Coroner's Office autopsy found that he died from a bacterial infection, methi cillin-resistant staph aureus.
Convictions on the charges could bring penalties of one to 12 years in jail and fines of up to $750,000.
